Re: [bmw] Re: 99 528iT cooling system

Fred,

The engine drain plug is on the passenger side of the engine block, near the rear. You'll need to reach around the exhaust manifold to reach it. It should be a 17mm plug (same size as the oil drain plug). It's located fairly high up on the engine block, but it's actually located at the bottom of the water jacket area, before the point where the engine block expands for the crankcase.

You should also replace the crush gasket when you drain the coolant. It's a cheap part (less than $1) from the dealer.

I went looking for the drain on the engine block to get all the old coolant
out. All I found was a bolt on the drivers side of the block. It looks too
inaccessible to be the drain. Since I'm two weeks away fro getting my Bentley
manual could someone give me some help on how to completely drain the cooling
system.
