RE: [alfa] 164 speedo gear update

The gear is a hard plastic. A similar thing happened to me without any
visible/functional damage to my gearbox.

The first installation was done incorrectly and it fell into the gearbox never
to be found. The second installation was done by packing it with lots of
grease so that it would hold its position while the sender unit was mounted.

Again, it works fine with no apparent damage. I'd suggest draining the fluid
and replacing it.

Subject: [alfa] 164 speedo gear update

Thanks Tom for the offline advice re the 164 speedo gear that fell into the
gearbox.

If the gear is plastic, it shouldn't cause any damage if it gets caught up
in the works. The issue though is whether it is plastic, or has a metal
axle inside.

Does anybody know what exactly what the 164 speedo driven gear is made
from???

Many thanks,
