[alfa] Flexible fuel tanks
Fuel delivery pumps are corrected for temperature to a standard
temperature(in Canada this is 15C, about 60F). In winter, the measured
volume has to be adjusted upwards for the displayed volume (and the paid
for volume!) to account for the increased density of the colder fuel from
the underground storage tank. The displayed quantity of fuel is therefore
larger than the actual quantity delivered, but the mass of fuel should be
very close to the correct amount. If not, the price per unit would have to
vary with the temperature of the fuel delivered to the tank. Very inconvenient.
Anyone know how much the volume of gasoline varies with temperature?
Furthermore, it is not possible to put as much fuel into an in use fuel
tank as the measured capacity for the simple reason that you cannot pump
all the fuel out using only the fuel pump.
Cheers
