Dean, and the rest of you Alfisti
First of all you don't machine a valve shim, you grind it. If it is necessary
to thin one out all you need to do it go to a good hardware store or a
gun/sporting goods store that sells high grade knives. Buy a round (makes life
easier, straight will work) sharpening/honing stone and the oil. Use an old towel,
sit down in front of the tube or some other boring nonactivity, oil the honing
stone and have at it in a figure eight motion. Check the progress every once
in a while and you will very soon not only get a feel for the amount of
material being removed but you will also learn to make the motions without having to
think about them. I have been doing this for years. NEVER had a failure.
