Joe:
When you replaced the wiper arms on your GTV-6, did you also replace the
wiper blades themselves? When I upgraded my 1981 GTV-6 to wiper arms
from a 1986 parts car, I had to replace the blades as well, since the
old ones didn't fit on the new arms. Using the blades from the 1986
GTV-6, I too had dramatically less swept area, but it was largely due to
the smaller blades that came with the later model arms.
My response was to go to an asymmetrical wiper blade solution. I
purchased a new, big blade to go on the driver's side and kept one of
the smaller blades on the passenger's side where I didn't need as much
swept area. I'm tall., and my problem was that the smaller blades
weren't clearing the part of the windshield I needed to look through to
see the road directly in front of the car.
I couldn't run two blades big enough to sweep the windshield all the way
to near the top, because they bumped into each other. Good luck with yours.
Good luck,
Rex
