[alfa] RE: mechanical tensioners



Brian-  This is the first I've heard any mention of a "2nd generation" 12V
mechanical tensioner.  If it is true, that would be great news, but as you
suggest, it needs to be verified.  Keep in mind, it is possible that the
part# did not change, so let's not use that as the sole criteria for
verification.      

Look forward to hearing more info (guess the horse isn't dead yet after
all), and I will hold off on my attempts to contact the OEM manufacturer
directly until I hear more.

Rumor has it that Alfa redesigned the original mechanical tensioner, but
didn't widely publicize it because they didn't want to eat the existing
ones.  I guess they figured they'd deplete stock of the current mechanical
ones, then phase in the replacements.

Allegedly, if you know the part number for the second generation mechanical
tensioner, you can order one.  I don't know the part number.

Has anybody else heard this?
