RE: [alfa] Battery Cable for 1974 Spider
I'm pretty sure that the main positive battery cable runs from the battery
to the starter. This cable runs down the inner fender on the driver's side
and along the rear of the cross member. There should some 'tabs' on the
cross member and inner fender that get kind of bent to hold the cable in
place.
There is another wire that runs from the B+ terminal on alternator to the
battery, or possibly a junction block on the inner fender with another wire
that runs from here to the battery. I know the later cars were wired through
the junction block, I can't remember if the earlier cars were this way too.
As has been mentioned before, unless you are going for originality, the
trunk is a much better place for the battery.
HTH,
Jeff

Subject: [alfa] Battery Cable for 1974 Spider
The previous owner of my 1974 Spider put the battery in a marine box and
relocated it to the dead center of the trunk. I would like to move it back
to its original location in the engine compartment. As I do not have the
original positive cable, I will fabricate a new one. That is, unless someone
has one they want to get rid of.
My question are: how is the wire snaked to the starter? Does it run between
the engine and the firewall, in front of the radiator, under the engine, or
some other place I haven't thought of. Does the alternator wire run to the
starter or the battery? Any description, pictures or drawings would be of
great assistance.
Thanks,
Mike
