[alfa] 115 gtv braking issue

i've been forced by the delay in getting my 164 winter-ready to drive
my gtv for the past several weeks, which has been a little exciting
considering the weather up here and the AVS intermediates on the
car. it's been interesting seeing a number of systems that turn
out not to work well at all when very cold.

today, the brakes suddenly did something odd and unexpected.
intermittantly, when i depress the pedal, it comes up feeing much
harder than usual with a much shorter throw. after a couple of stops
in this condition, it goes back to normal (for some value of normal.)

anyone have any suggestions about what might be up?
