[alfa] The electrons keep falling out of my car
Hello Alfisti and Happy Holidays.
With the onset of cold weather here in Chicago, I've fallen into electrical hell on both the Spider and the Verde. Maybe someone has some experience with these before I start tearing into things in a cold parking lot.
1) '87 Milano Verde. Quits charging when cold. Had this happen last fall/winter about this time. Got a new battery which was fine until I put it away for the year. Fully charged battery on a charger coming out of hibernation. It happened again during an unusually cold spring this year. Has been fine all summer until now. But it's cold again. The battery appears to run down while sitting (I don't drive it much) and doesn't charge when I take it for a good long-ish drive.
2) '86 Spider: problem #1. Drivers side window won't go down. Again, just started during the cold. Fuses and switches check out. Wiggled the door wire as suggested by a local mechanic. No go. Haven't yet (and dred) ripping into the door. Any suggestions prior to and during disassembly appreciated.
3) '86 Spider: problem #2. Wipers quit working occasionally. Somtimes it's not all settings, sometimes I lose them completely. If I stop and open and close the door real hard, they start up again. Very strange.
Any advice appreciated. Epsecially the Verde one. I'd like to get a few more days of driving before I store it. I can't tell you how much I miss it for those 4 cold, snowy months.
-Peter
