BTDT.  The problem is likely the self-adjusting mechanism in the rear
calipers.  They become corroded and will not move to allow for the spring to
take up the slack each time the handbrake is used.  The fix is to remove the
cylinder clean and lubricate.  You can also replace the caliper.  Search on
the 164 digest for a full explanation.
