RE: [alfa] Re: moose hits

When I lived near the North/South Dakota and Minnesota borders (~1986), an
unfortunate driver found a moose on the road near Rosholt SD (I think).
Whether the legs were broken out from underneath the moose causing him to
come to rest on top of the passengers, or if he rolled up onto the passenger
compartment, or if he flew in the air and landed on the passenger
compartment, the end result was the same -- crushed passengers. Sad, for the
people and for the moose.

The lore here in Maine is that the moose, having had its legs knocked out
from under it by the car bumper, sort of rolls across the hood and directly
through the windshield. Force equalling mass times velocity, the result
isn't pretty.

My New Hampshire friends told me that a typical collision with one of these
magnificent creatures was one where the car took out the animal's legs
causing the rest of it's body to fall on top of the cabin of the vehicle,
crushing the occupants.
