[alfa] RE: alfa-digest V9 #933

I have a diesel Suburban. As I understand it, diesel oil is formulated such
that it holds soot particles, which are an inevitable part of diesel fuel
combustions, in suspension. I'm not sure what this would do for/to a gas
motor. I think I'll stick to oil formulated for its intended purpose.

Subject: [alfa] Diesel Oil

The son of a friend is crew chief on one of the factory Corvettes (#3 I
think). I'm told that their trick oil setup is to run diesel engine oil
because it contains a lot of zinc. Zinc provides a protective coating that
works well at high temps and cuts down on wear. Zinc causes cats on newer
cars to break down sooner but I'll probably switch to diesel engine oil for
my
older Alfas.

Any experience out there with diesel engine oil?
