[alfa] Spider Series Numbers

While John H. is considerably more knowledgeable as to what is official
and what is unofficial, I'll give you Giancenzo Madaro's list in his
book 'Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider'. Yeah, just the title might make one
suspicious in that Duetto was used for only one (or three according to
Madaro) years.

Nevertheless here is his 'official looking' international list of the
various series and their / his names:

1st series (Osso di Seppia)
1600 (Duetto) 66 -68
1750 Veloce 67 (???) - 69
1300 Junior

2nd series (Short tail)
1750 Veloce 69 (??) - 73
1300 Junior 69 - 78
2000 Veloce / 130 hp 71 - 77
1.6 Junior / 110 hp 74 - 81
1.6 / 102 hp 74 - 81
2.0 / 1`28 hp 75 - 82

3rd series (Aerodinamica)
2.0 / 128 hp fl 83 (?)82 - 86
1.6 / 104 hp fl 83 (?) 83 - 86
1.6 / 104 hp 86 - 89
2.0 / 128 hp 86 - 89
2.0 128 hp Q. Verde 85 - 89

4th series
1.6 from '90
2.0 from '89
(the English language version was published in '91)

Obviously the list includes all of the European and elsewhere, except
the US, Spiders.

I'm a bit suspicious since he says the 1750 1st series began in 1967.
Perhaps it did in Europe?

IF this is a made after the fact list, I feel there should be (at least
for the US) a fifth series making the '70 to '74 as 2nd series, '75 to
83 (?) 3rd series, '84 to '89 4th series and '90 to '95 (?) 5th series.

In the past I've always felt the 3rd series began in '75 - huge changes
to the body structure and bumpers between '74 (ish) and '75. Obviously,
again just for the US, the most accurate way (I believe) would be to
list from VIN to VIN as to when each series began and ended.

Have I helped to confuse the issue?

Since, except for Alfas and a few other minor vehicles and items, the US
is still clinging to inches and feet. So why can't We have five series
of Spiders? It should be obvious by now we don't listen to the Europeans
(except when they give keen Alfa advice and have hard-to-find parts).
