[alfa] valve spring compressor

(Almost) stripped my spare 2L Alfetta head on Sunday.  Found myself stuck without a valve spring compressor that I could use -- I have two, one a C-clamp style, another that's similar to a wheel-puller.  Tried to build an attachment tool for the C-clamp, but then couldn't find enough leverage to compress the spring.  
 
I'll probable order the correct Alfa tool, but in the meantime, does anyone have a bush-mechanic method for removing valve springs?  Or photos of the genuine tool, or their bush-mechanic work-around?
