[alfa] gtwe6 weird elec'l, continued

Doug,
I beleive that that the electric device on back of the alternator is a "capacitor".
I replaced the alternator on my 87 Spider last fall (from IAP) and no, the capacitor didn't come with - I had to transfer old capacitor to new alternator. That perturbed me a bit - I thought I ought to get a new one with the rebuilt alternator.
Capacitors hold an electric charge - exactly their function w.r.t the operation of the alternator I do not know.
I can explain "uf" - it is abbreviation for "micro farads". Farads (named for physicist Michael Farady) is the unit of measurement for capacitance. One whole farad is a huge amount so the capacitance of commonly used capacitors are measured in "one-millionth farad", aka "micro farad", with lower case Greek letter "mu" as abbreviation for "micro", the Greek letter "mu" looks sorta like a "u", so "u" is commonly used. Hence, "uf" = "micro farads".
