Hi Zach:
I think Woody and AlfaBill are right on this one, and I'll elaborate their
comments. The clutch pedal doesn't need a slave cylinder in place to be
returned to it's normal resting position. There is a spring inside the MC
that will do that. It seems like the newer "off-brand" MC's have a fairly
weak return spring, but the OEM Bonaldi's have a spring that will really
pop the pedal back up forcefully. If you had to reach down under the dash
and pull the pedal back up, it sounds like the clutch pedal pivot pin is
just about to break. Before it does, you'll be able to manipulate the
pedal without actually having the pin fully rotate, and it may work
properly a few times, but then the pedal will suddenly drop against the
firewall. I've attached a pic for you, illustrating just how the part
fails. Replacement is fairly straightforward, and requires removal of the
pedal box from the firewall. Both the brake and clutch MC's have to be
removed first. I just did it, on my '87 Spider, two weeks ago.

Unfortuanatly Vick's was out of stock. CAme back home and slowly pulled
the clutch pedal back up to where it should be. Re-installed the slave
(keeping in mind the advice given-bleeder valve up, ect.).

gotten a wicked air lock in the system when I hooked things up the first time.
