Re: [alfa] steering wheel freeplay

Dante,
I may sound like a broken record, but you need to find where the play is
coming from.
Put the front end up on ramps and have an assistant move the steering
wheel from side to side while you go under the car and check every tie rod
end, ball joints, caster rod bushings, idler arm, steering box and pitman arm
for lost motion.
Sometimes you can see the lost motion between two parts and sometimes you
have to put your hands on it and feel it. (Don't get your fingers where they
can be pinched)
Watch the steering box and make sure it is tight against the frame and
isn't cracked and allowing movement.
The only thing you can adjust is the gear lash in the steering box. Be
real careful you don't get it too tight! Everything else is a parts
replacement deal.

Subject: [alfa] steering wheel freeplay

I recently acquired a '90 Spider and I'm trying to figure out what I need to
replace or adjust in order to reduce the freeplay in my stering. Any
suggestions?

Any help would be appreciated...
