Re: alfa-digest V9 #745
Does any "digester" have an idea as to gear improvement?
I have an 84 Spider, and am sick of the delay it takes to shift into 1st,
2nd, and Reverse........have read about gear lightening which makes it easier for
the synchros on older Alfas such as mine. There's nothing wrong with the
clutch, and gears seem to work just fine---just the typical Alfa problems with
shifting into 1st, 2nd, reverse, I think.
Even found a website from the AlfaWebRing, in California: someone who
lightens gears.......My local Amoco gas station mechanic said he could do it all
himself----even has drills and lathes in his shop......and he's just a local gas
station guy in a strip mall shopping center 5 mins. from my house.
Is this a good thing to do, or would I just end spending the same money on an
all new (rebuilt) tranny?
Or should I hang on to my money and just go for slippier gear oil?
Are there any modern trannies that would fit in my 84 Spider?
-Any advice gladly appreciated.
