Re: 164 clutch throw-out question



I just did this job on my 164Q.  Yes, the correct way to do the throw-out
bearing it to have it on the tranny and marry the tranny up to the engine.
The bearing will NOT click in when you tighten the bolts.  It will click in
by running the motor on the starter and pushing the clutch lever (at the
transmission) in the opposite direction that pushing on the pedal would.
The engine has to be running/ rotating for the bearing to snap it.  DO NOT
try to force it in with the engine not turning.  Be sure to disconnect the
ECU when doing the starter procedure above, or wait until the job is all
done and start the engine, then pop in the bearing.
