RE:105 Ignition question

Jeff

As far as I'm aware 105 ignition switches have lugs (protrusions) at the back
onto which spade connectors attach. The switch you describe sounds
suspiciously like a 116 type switch from the "Dark Age" of Alfas .. :) . I
seem to recall replacing something similar in a Giulietta and one of the V6
Alfas sometime in that "Dark Age". And it further appears that the switch has
been adapted to the 105 connectors.

To get the switch out, get a drill onto the rounded head of the securing bolt,
the one without any slot. As long as you can make a smallish hole on there,
you can use a punch or something else to bump the bolt around till it loosens
enough to just push around and unscrew. Done this multi times, so others ..
please don't tell me it can't be done.

Wiring - I think someone else will need to help your with that ... sorry. I
keep away from all those coloured tubes filled with blue smoke.

Subject: 105 Ignition question

I just bought a new ignition switch for the Berlina, but it is not the same
as the original. The old one has a pair of wires that come out of the
front, just under the chrome surround. The pair of black wires travel
inside a black sleeve that is zip tied to the steering column. One wires
have flat blade connectors, one normal, and the other very narrow. The
normal one is attached to wire which I believe goes to ground. The other
wire is not connect, rather it is just doubled back into the black sleeve.

My first question is, can I use the new switch without the wires?

My second question relates to removal of the old one. There is a threaded
fastener that does not appear to have any type of head, no slot, not
Phillips, not Allen, not hex. How the help do you get it out? Please do
not tell me that you have to pull the whole steering column unless you have
time to come over and help.

Thanks in advance
