Alfetta water pump

James, yes a spider water pump will work in your car. However, it will
have a longer, squared off nose on the the front of the pulley which
holds the 'old-fashioned' type plastic fan and hardware.

I agree with Tom Callahan's advice, call Alfa Parts. While it's been a
number of years, Jon gave me the choice of a fairly reasonably priced
Spider water pump for my '75 Alfetta GT or a somewhat more expensive
'correct' water pump, I chose the latter (after all, I own all those
companies). Don't be surprised if they are NLA (no longer available).

I'm quite sure this doesn't affect your '78, but should your car have
the older style mechanical tach, believe you'll have to switch out the
drive gear for it - and definitely will if you get a Spider pump.
