Re:105 brake calliper rebuild
Anthony,
You may have tried this already but since you mention that the calipers are
off the car, maybe you haven't. The only method I've used to unstick calipers
is to use the hydraulic pressure of a working master cylinder. It's real easy
when they're on the car - just remove the brake pads one at a time and replace
them with something that will prevent the piston from popping all the way out
when you romp on the brake pedal. If you allow the first piston to come all
the way out, you're SOL on unsticking the second piston. A worn down brake
pad works well for this (thanks Skip). If the calipers aren't on the car you
can just hook up a brake hose from the car to your caliper (sitting on a block
so as not to overextend the brake hose). You'll have to figure out some kind
of blocking arrangement to allow one piston to pop out (not all the way,
remember!) while the other one is pushing against the caliper housing. A
larger diameter piston or a large socket might work for this. By the way, I
think a '73 GTV would be a 115 and not a 105 although if I'm wrong I'm open to
correction on this or any other element of my post. Good luck.
