rebuilding the v6 tensioner

Hi folks,
a quick question:  does anyone know which way the cup-shaped rubber seal goes
on?
It seems to go in the hole on the backing plate, but I didn't notice one upon
removal of the unit, so I can't tell which direction, and IAP didn't send any
instructions.
