Copper head gasket - NO WAY!

OK so I am about to start a new discussion topic and possibly a flame war!

Biba mentioned using copper head gaskets on Alfa ali engines.

Well IMHO this is a definite NO NO, do not even think about it.

If you examine the Anodic Table you will see that Copper and Ali are about as far apart as
it is possible to get.

What does this mean?

Well under the presence of water, an electrolyte, copper and Ali will develop an
electrolytic corrosion like you will not believe. Almost as bad as brass screws in ali,
which any boat owner knows causes causes horrific corrosion.

If you need a deformable gasket for Alfa engines then rather consider the use of an ali
gasket instead.

Copper gaskets on cast iron cylinder head/blocks is an acceptable practice as the
corrosion problem is not so prevelant.
