With a gear type motor driven pump the pump tends to get overheated if the
fuel is just "dead headed" at the injector system. So, a return line to the
tank is used to circulate fuel thru the pump and keep it cool. But, if you
circulate too much, then there is not enough pressure built up to operate the
fuel injection system. That's why they put a restricted fitting in the return
line. To allow circulation but not too much.
