the back seat is suitable for, say, a 5 year old in a booster seat, if it
has the hard points in the back and you fit belts (i don't know if a 71
has the hard points for lap belt attachment; my 74 does.)
it's not suitable for an adult of average or larger size. it is my
understanding that the back seat is sized rather exactly to make the car
legal for European sedan racing of the time period.

if you actually intend to use the back seat, then make sure the hard points
are there. one is on the rear wheel arch, and may be under some interior
trim or vinyl, and the other is under the seat cushions. you may find it a
bit of work to get an infant seat in and out of the back.
in my 74 GTV, i'm using rear belts that if i remember correctly, came out
of an Alfetta GT. they only get used when i try and fit both my wife and
my daughter into the car at the same time; otherwise, my daughter rides in
a booster seat in front.
