If I were taking on this project, I'd not only scarf the transaxle
from the Milano, I'd pull the whole deDion tube; likewise, I'd snag
the front suspension/rotors as well. Essentially, you'd snag the
whole drivetrain from the Milano.
For the instrumentation, you might as well pull the Milano gauges
(tach/speedo) and modify them to fit in the Alfetta gauge housings.
Of course, the shift linkages are different, too - which poses a bit
of an issue, as the Milano version is much better than the Alfetta,
but I suspect the difference in wheelbase (and other issues) may
preclude using the Milano linkage.
I don't think there's any difference between the 4-cylinder Alfetta's
rear suspension and the Milano's, As for gauges, snag those from a
GTV-6, at least they'll actually FIT the Alfetta's binnacles (the
central one will require some modification, but I think the binnacle
directly in front of the driver will take a GTV-6 tach or speedo
directly), unlike the Milano gauges. I know that the transaxles are
similar between the two cars, but I do know that there are SOME
differences (the hydraulic slave on the 4-cylinder clutch, for
instance, is smaller than the 6-cylinder part)
Make no mistake, this is going to be quite a project - in the end,
you'll end up with a car that in spirit will be a GTV6, but won't
handle nearly as well. IIRC, the GTV6 got quite a bit of chassis
stiffening to accept the V6 engine.
I think it would be easier in both the short and the long run to just
find a GTV-6 that needs some TLC, and take the cosmetic bits off of the
4-cylinder that distinguish it from the later car and apply them. For
instance, I know that the older tail lights can be used, because if you
take the GTV-6 lights off, the slots for the older type are still in
the bodywork behind it.
Good luck - it sounds like just the kind of project I'd tackle if I
still had a decent garage space...
