Re: GTV6 won't run - help
I'm struggling with a sparkless GTB6 now but had a problem similiar to yours a
year or so ago. Turned out to be a slipped cam drive belt. Line up the
timing marks on the crank pulley, the cam timing marks and check the position
of the rotor on the distributor (should be pointing to the mark on the
distributor housing). Retime the distributor if needed and fire it up. True
confessions - my belt slipped again, I retimed the distributor and it ran fine
until it slipped a third time. Cleverly trying to retime it again I ran out
of rotation on the distributor. The light bulb came on in the balloon over my
head indicating a different approach was required. Replaced the rebuilt by
expert Alfa wrench hydraulic tensioner with the mechanical/spring device. No
problems, mate. No bent valves due to the slippage.
