Which Spider? (was Alfas and College students)/ "Chipping" an L-J et

I'll not dispute Tess' point that the pre-75 Spiders are the best
performers in the zoom-zoom department, but ANY Spider is a lot of fun
-- we're talking small differences here, not orders of magnitude.
Having said that, I'll still stand by my statement that the Bosch L-Jet
Spiders are the most bang for the buck since they are plentiful enough
to keep the price down and a pre-75 Spider could be as much as 14 years
older and that much more worn out, plus the '80s Spiders have additional
creature comforts, like A/C which would sway my decision if the Spider
in question were to be my only car. YMMV.

I received the info from John Fielding on the digital replacement for
the brain box behind the seat (I think that's the fuel one). He's
apparently working on the other box, too. One thing he doesn't mention
is whether the digital box is plug compatible or whether one has to hack
into the harness. I'd sure rather it be a plug-in swap since it's a 40
pin connector! Still, it would be cool to have the ability to change the
program with a laptop, which he offers.
