You can get to the nuts that hold the brackets to the oil pan from the 
bottom of the car.  An open end wrench worked just fine for me. 

Before doing this I actually tried the 'pry the engine' method and couldn't 
make it work.  I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who tried to do that...
