RE: painting ... long

To add to Jeff G's comments,

If you are able to remove as much trim as possible you have more cash to
spend on the actual painting process.

5 hours of the paintshop's time spent removing your often unobtainable trim
pieces will likely add up to at least $400.00 worth of added labour.
Remember that the most experienced tradesmen are unlikely to be the ones
removing the trim in a multi-man operation and that poor apprentice might
not realise that you spent the last 14 years sourcing that piece of chrome
trim. Of course if you aren't confident that you can remove trim without
damage, leave it to the experts (or ask the Digesti !!)

That $400.00 spent on paint and prep can make a huge difference to the end
result, especially as the shop will likely treat you differently if you want
"a real good job but I don't want to spend much" It also gives you a chance
to see any damage under the trim, and gives you a better understanding of
how your car is assembled.

You must take the car to the shop and try not to let them hurry you through
a quote. Make sure you come to an agreement as to exactly what is to be
painted, what part of the prep you are willing to do, and exactly what the
shop needs you to do prior to presenting the car to them for the work. Also
ask what type/brand of paint they will be using.
