RE: Painting

Excellent response on painting from Jeff Greenfield!

Another reason to take things off of the car is to get that area of the car re-painted as well. As Jeff mentioned, it eliminates having those items taped off and the possibility of a "less than perfect" paint job.

Do want to do the car in single stage paint or do you want it clear-coated as well. If you're changing the color, that means painting under the hood, under the trunk lid, inside the trunk, under the door panels, etc. This will affect pricing AND time.

Make sure the shop has a paint booth. That helps to insure a better paint job. Keep in mind the booth is another tool and it's still up to the painter to make sure the work area is dust free, the car is dust free, etc. Sometimes the appearance of the shop tells you the kind of finished work to expect.

And maybe last but not least, some shops prefer just collision work...fixing fenders, etc. Because of that, complete paint jobs become something of a challenge for them. Not impossible, just out of the ordinary.

My 2 cents...

So it's now time to get the GTV6 painted. I have a few questions for those
of you that have been through this before, and those of you perhaps do your
own body work. First, what do I look for in a body shop? Second, what should
I do to make this an easy process? Third, any gotchas I should watch out
for? Fourth, what should I expect to pay for a good job? And last, if anyone
knows of a good shop in Tampa Bay, drop me a line. Oh, I know these are
subjective/broad questions, but I really don't know enough to ask specifics.

As always TIA!
