Re: Totally unrelated fuel hose question

Hi Jason:

A few months ago I replaced all the fuel hoses under my '87 Spider with regular (not molded) high pressure fuel hose. I recall that it was a little tricky to get it looped and curved just right, but that was maybe a thousand miles ago, and it's worked fine. The hose you're asking about took the most work, as it had two nearly-180 degree bends to it. You'll find that the fuel hose will bend well in one direction, but will kink if bent in the other, presumably since it's been sitting on a reel for who knows how long. The hard lines you're seeing aren't plastic. They are steel, but have a gray/beige paint/coating that does have a plastic look to it. They're not as fragile as they might appear, but do use appropriate caution when working on them. You know, if one hose is bad, they may all be, so you might want to do as I did, and attack them all while you're under there and already drenched in gasoline. Don't forget the fuel filter, either.

Subject: Totally unrelated fuel hose question

Okay, so my '87 Spider bit the dust on possibly the nicest top down Alfa
driving day so far this year - figures. I towed it home and determined
the fuel pump was toast - no biggie. Good news - the local import parts
place has a replacement in stock, and once I got it installed the beast
fired right up. Bad news - the molded hose going from the fuel tank to
the pump split wide open and is leaking like crazy. This is the piece
that attaches to the inlet of the fuel pump on one end and the plastic
line coming down from the gas tank on the other. Are these available
somewhere, or can I simply fabricate something from a length of
similar-sized fuel line and a couple of "u" shaped fittings? The piece
in question is about 8" long and doubles back on itself at each end.

Thanks in advance,
