You may have a faulty or stuck cold start solenoid and/or thermostatic
actuator making the mixture rich. I'd work to eliminate both of those as the
culprits before taking off the Spica and sending it to Wes or replacing it
with carbs. The Spica also has a mixture adjustment which might be off.
