Berlina Steering

I was told that on some Berlinas you can open up the steering box and
tighten down the gears in order to take out some of the slop in the
wheel. I do not think my particular box allows for this. Is there
anything else that I may be able to do to remedy the play in my
steering. Keep in mind that I have rebuilt the idler arm, had the tie
rod ends replaced and a few other bits...the play is definitely in the
steering column. 

Any hints would be appreciated. Feel free so respond with a "Dude, DUH!"
