Re: Turbina Refinishing
Erik,
Restoring Turbinas depends upon the results that you want. If you
are going for concours, have them professionally done. If your car
is going to be a nice driver, the Griots kit produces great
results. How great, is a result of your skill as a painter and how
much time you are willing to put into the prep.
Before I started, I pressure washed the wheels several times and
then used paint prep to get them as clean as possible. It is my
understanding that the Tubinas have a high magnesium content so I
was advised not to strip them. Mine had been previously painted
(by a PO over the factory finish) which was easily removed by
light bead blasting. Filler and wet/dry sanding can remove some or
most of the pitting and defects (this is the point where you
decide how nice you want them). The Griots kit does the rest (more
paint prep, primer, paint, clear coat).
