I bet they meant that the "effect" of the lighting was too harsh.  That is,
that the paint won't look as sharp and deep and rich and true under
flourescent lighting, which is true.  I know at high-end auctions and
automotive museums and car shows and so forth they always try to stay away
from flourescents, because the cars don't look as nice.
