About that spinning tie rod bolt problem:  been there, done that.  Take a big pair of Channel Locks and squeeze! that bolt back into the spindle.  That is a Morse taper and when you squeeze it hard enough, it will lock into the spindle and quit turning.
Take the nut off then use Fred and John's double hammer method to get it back out again.
