there were one or two other vendors for metric tires. i recall that Avon
did make them, and i think that perhaps there was one more.

there were some advantages to the design but not enough advantages to
justify the related costs, and the whole thing pretty much died. it didn't
help that most of the advances in tires occuring at the time were in the
traditional sizes, and not in the metric sizes. the metric tires fell
behind technologically rather rapidly. i don't know what michelin was
thinking.
