Re: 164 Transaxle Lube

I put Redline MTL in the gearbox of my TS eighteen months ago. The shift
quality seems absolutely fine.

The technique I used for getting it into the gearbox is worth a mention. It
goes in through the dipstick hole in the gearbox, a useful tip is to make a
cable tie loop through the dipstick eye. This makes it much easier to get hold
of.

Take a wooden dowel rod, tape a long piece of clear plastic tube to it such
that about a couple of inches protrudes beyond the dowel. The dowel enable you
to locate the dipstick hole (use a flashlight to illuminate the area) and then
push the plastic tube into the filler hole. I used an old washing up liquid
bottle (well cleaned) with the base cut off as a reservoir and poured the oil
into that 'hospital drip' style watching the read oil run down the tube and
into the box. Its 2 quarts in a TS gearbox, and at that price I did not spill
a single drop!

There is quite a bit more ancilliary equipment obscuring things in the V6s
than in the TS, but I think this method will hold good. It would be nice to
hear confirmation that this works for V6s as I haven't had to do it yet.
