Buy from those who know your car (was: Spark Plugs)

I had the same problem buying a battery for a Studebaker at Pep Boys
(Sunnyvale, CA). It's an extremely common group 24 battery and I could see it
on the shelf behind the counter. "Studebaker" wasn't in the computer, so the
parts counter guy went looking for his manager, who was probably out back
smoking something. I walked out after waiting for 5 minutes without my
battery. Some stores are good for discounted car wax and floor mats, some
stores have real "parts people" who know what they're doing.

My point (and my required Alfa content)? Support your local Alfa-friendly
store or plan ahead and buy by mail from a Digest supporter.

Ciao,

Studebaker: A box full of spare tune-up parts in the trunk
1995 164LS: A cell phone and an AAA card in my pocket. Never needed to use it
in 7 years.

I had more or less the same problem at Grand Auto Supply in San
Francisco a year or so ago. Asking for a set of NGK BP6ES, the question
from the otherwise nice partsguy was "What year and make?" As I didn't
think it was any of his business I just repeated that I wanted NGK
plugs, and that they were right there on the shelf behind him!!!
