IAP has a tech bulletin that details the procedure.
heed, especially, the note about not over-torquing the
detensioner.

if you're going to stick with the mech. detensioner,
you might want to glue a thin wire over the end of the
outer spring (over the inch and a half where it
anchors to the body) and wire an indicator lamp to let
you know if(when) it breaks.
