starter/tune up/new spider
My experience with starter problems leads me to give the following advice:
First of all, has there been a common set of circumstances when it did not
work?
Next, is this the original starter?
It could be the solenoid, it could be the wiring and/or wiring connections.
You have to eliminate things one at a time. Without any more information, I
would pull the starter (make a note that the middle bolt is different and put
the bolts back in the same places) and take it to your local starter shop and
have it tested.
If it tests ok, then you have to test everything else. Try to duplicate the
problem whilst bypassing the ignition switch. The list goes on and on, so in
the interest of bandwidth, have the main component checked out first, since
it is so easy. While at the shop, you might as well have the unit cleaned
up, if it doesn't need rebuilding. Keep us posted.
The Italian tune up was described by Mr. Shorey not too many digests ago, and
high five's to Mr. Koleszar and Mr Murphy for reprising the subject, after
all, why do we own these cars in the first place?
As for the new spider, the only one I have seen was in Germany earlier this
year, quite stunning if not quite as original as well, the original. The one
in New Jersey I can only guess is not on the digest, or we would have heard
about it before it got here. Speculation then leads to either a diplomatic
source or....well, fugedaboutit.
Also, many thanks for the drive shaft thread, that is a project I will be
tackling soon. Apologies in advance for future stupid questions.
