I suspect that those add-ons are the things that can most effectively be 
sold, compared to the underlying car, which has become a container for the 
thing contained.  And, while the margin on the car is nothing to write home 
about, the margin on the non-car integrated features can be very appealing.

IOW, it is, as usual, about our old nemesis, MONEY.  Certainly not about 
driving.
