air conditioning

Tim,

I just installed ac in my 71 Spider. The system I used was from a 1981
Spider. I did a lot of mods to make it work. I was fortunate though
because the bodys and engines are similar between the 71 and 81. I don't
know what kind of challenges you will be faced with but I can tell you some
of what I ran into. Incidently, I'm currently working on an article about
my endeavors for Overheard Cams. Here's some of the hurdles you might run
into:

1 Alternator capacity-I modified a GM 65 amp alternator
2 Double groove crank pulley-I had to remark the timing marks on the new
pulley
3 Fan-I made a spacer for the engine fan so it would clear the fan
belts
4 Alignment of pulleys-I had to machine the idler pulley
5 Battery location-I moved mine to the trunk
6 Electrical-I installed relays to lessen the load on some of those
weaker components, ie. ignition switch

Has anyone tried to put air conditioning into an older car that didn't come
with it? I'm wondering if I could get a unit to work in my Giulia Super and
what the hazards are.
Thanks.
