There is quite a bit of info on batteries, particularly the Miata AGP type in the June and July issues of Road and Track in the Technical Correspondence section.

Some interesting stuff, the Westco is an AGP not gel cell as I had previously thought, and 6 amp is the perfect charging rate, not trickle (<2 amps) as is commonly believed. Lots more info on longevity and safety etc...
