Graham,
Is this the same Imparts that sells BMW parts where you bought your
Mintex pads?  I agree with your assessment of Mintex.  They are a great
pad and I think much better than the PBR/Axxis Deluxe pads. 
 
I'm not sure on the LS, but the pigtails on O2 sensors typically are
connected somewhere around the firewall on their way to the ECU.  I
don't think it should be too hard to locate.
