RE: Optima batteries

It's my understanding that the Optima, like all AGM and gel cell
batteries (the Optima is an AGM or Absorptive Glass Mat) is vulnerable
to voltage irregularities.  In fact, subjecting them to voltage of
higher than 14 volts for prolonged periods can render them useless in a
matter of months.  

Also, it's not entirely true that they are "sealed".  The will gas off
if subject to extreme heat or high voltages.  Says so in their FAQ.
