Re: 164 ABS Fixed! - AD331

Tom,

Thanks for your ABS story. This seems to be a fairly common 164 problem.

My ABS too has been inoperative for some time - (it's one of those jobs
that keeps getting put off by more urgent ones). The sympton is that the
ABS will pulse a few times on the first stop after getting moving, then
shuts down.

I have made some preliminary checks - the connections are all good and
tight (and cleaned with Deoxit). I have made up some test leads that plug
my DMM directly into the sensor plug - the resistances of the sensors are
all about the middle of the spec in the cardisc, and all sensors are close
to one another in resistance value.

I have done the test of jacking up one wheel at at time and spinning it -
if the ABS light comes on then that wheel is OK. I have only one front and
one rear wheel showing as OK, but with the resistances and connections
looking OK, I have suspected that the signal from the sensor is just not
strong enough. I haven't checked the air gaps yet between the sensors and
the sensor rings yet.

I have don't have a digital scope, but I do have a 20Mhz analogue scope -
would this be sensitive enough to measure the amplitude of the sensor
signal?

Thanks,
John Wiltshire,
Sydney Australia
