I once had a situation that seemed like a bad microswitch-- the solenoid
could never seem to close off the fuel upon decel. I was ready to tear into
it to replace the switch. Took it to Wes. (My good luck is that his shop is
nearby. Your good luck is TWO Alfas!) Turned out to be a failing Thermostatic
Actuator. In colder weather it didn't have quite enough strength to actuate
sufficiently which caused a richer mixture and slightly higher idle, even
after the engine reached operating temp. This overpowered the effect of the
microswitch/solenoid.
I realize this is not an exact match of your situation, but it is worth
looking at the T.A. Specifically, make sure it provides the correct pump gap
(measured at the reference screw) when at operating temp. This you can do
with the pump still on the car.
